This Is The Moment A BTCC Marshal Got Way Too Close To The Action

The British Touring Car Championship's 2016 season burst into life last weekend at Brands Hatch and the first race featured this close call for a marshal collecting debris as the leading cars approached!

The marshal ran across the circuit just before Surtees to clear debris from a crash on lap three of the first BTCC race, as the leading cars quickly approached. The yellow flags were being waved, but the safety car emerged just a few moments later, so surely he could have just waited a little bit longer? What made the situation even worse was that the marshal fumbled the object, eventually resorting to kicking it off the track.

Tom Ingram, Gordon Shedden and Adam Morgan claimed the three victories as the BTCC season kicked off in typically dramatic style.

Didn’t know that the BTCC cars where electric, since he obviously did not hear them, and as I’ve been saying for years EVs are silent pedestrian killers 😝

I am a Race Marshal (who was there at Brands) and this guy got a real bollocking when he got back to post… The Chief Marshal was not happy 1 bit!!
Marshals are not allowed to cross the track unless it is completely clear to do so but he was new and of course didn’t listen.
