The Morgan Aero GT Is An Aerodynamic Final Hurrah For The Aero 8

The Aero GT is not just the last of the current Aero 8 line, but it's also the last Morgan to use BMW's incredibly sweet normally-aspirated 4.8-litre V8

Morgan has released a couple of teaser images of a new, hardcore “gloves off” version of the long-standing Aero 8.

The Aero GT is the final fanfare not just for the current Aero 8, but also the normally-aspirated BMW 4.8-litre V8 that sits inside its long, classic nose. The 367bhp N62B48 engine is out of production at long last after service not just in the Aero 8, but also past versions of BMW’s 550i, 650i and 750i.

Just eight examples of the aluminium Aero GT will be built, all of which have been sold off-plan to existing Morgan customers. Each will be specifically tailored to their buyers’ requests.

The Aero GT will launch to 62mph in 4.5 seconds and, thanks to aerodynamic improvements, will hit 170mph. It was originally conceived in 2015 but was shelved at the time. Now, aero lessons learned from the GT3 Aero 8 racers have been applied to the Aero GT.

There’s a pretty drastic rear diffuser, Morgan says, and the hand-worked body panels are revised in shape to reduce chaotic drag and increase specific downforce. We’re a little bit in love with the rear-facing vents in the picture above, which will reduce air pressure and drag in the front wheel arches.

Morgan says it will reveal the car in full at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but we’re hoping for a few more images before then.
