The New A6 Avant Is Audi’s 'Shooting Brake Without Compromises'
Check out these pictures of the new Audi A6 Avant, a car that Audi says blends the practicality of a traditional estate with the swooping good looks of a shooting brake.
At just 12mm longer than before, the new car finds extra space by repackaging the boot area for an extra 27mm of length, which eventually levels things out with the exact same 515 litres as the old car had. As boots go, that’s not actually that large, but if you want space above all else, buy a Skoda Superb estate (660 litres).
The rear seats do fold almost flat, though, at the touch of a button. The car has gained the option of a powered tailgate that opens when you wave your foot beneath the bumper, too. Practicality box ticked, then.
The wheelbase is now longer and there’s more passenger space as a result. Both rows of seats have a fraction more wiggle room for arms and legs. Elbow room is much improved, we’re told.
It will obviously share most of its technology with the saloon, pictures of which we’ve already seen. That includes four-wheel steering, a mild hybrid drivetrain and more display screens than the TV section in Walmart.
As per the saloon synergy, the A6 Avant will have two engines from launch; a 335bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol, badged 55 TFSI, and a 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel badged 50 TDI, as part of Audi’s slightly confusing new naming structure.

Looks good from the back, that’s for sure
I do belive this is the only recent facelift I like.
That’s not a facelift tho. It’s a new generation
It reminds me of an rs6 avant
That’s just the performance version of the previous generation of this
If there’s something that Audi does better than all the others, than it’s building beautiful estates.
You don’t like the Volvo V90?
“515 liters” ok den
I think this is the first wagon I don’t like. The rear looks funky and the proportions aren’t quite right
Question is: what powertrain will the RS6 use?
Probably the one in the panamera Turbo S E-hybrid
‘Shooting brake without compromises’ is just an eloquent way of saying ‘it’s a wagon but that’s not what we want you to think’
Exactly, its nowhere near as beautiful as other true shooting brakes. This is just the Audi marketing team trying to sell a wagon.
Excuse me, what is this?
A steering wheel
I like most wagons, including this one, but does the center look arched?
