New BMW M5 Gets Carbon Fibre M Performance Parts, Still Very Heavy

The new BMW M5 is arguably the most subtle-looking car to come out of Beemer’s performance division in a while. In fact, some might be worried that their 717bhp, 2.4-tonne hybrid super saloon is a little too restrained.

We’re not sure who those people are, but as always, BMW’s M Performance parts have come to the rescue. For the last few years, these visual addenda have been available for those who want to scream to the world about just how sporty their BMW is, although like the car itself, the ones available for the M5 are a little more discreet than some recent efforts.

Starting up front, there’s a carbon fibre splitter with a divide down the middle, drawing attention to a similar setup for the car’s air intake. Along the sides, there’s the option of carbon fibre sill extensions, while round the back, there’s a new rear diffuser. Guess what it’s made of?

New M Performance tailpipe trims are made from a blend of carbon fibre and titanium, and completing the bodywork additions is a little rear lip spoiler, which is made of plywood. Only kidding, that’s carbon too.

Should this still not be enough to sustain your crippling carbon fibre addiction, the door mirror caps, fuel filler cap, and even the little shark fin aerial can be specced in the woven lightweight stuff. Pretty much the only things on the outside not made of it are the Frozen Black side decals and a new set of lightweight alloy wheels, which will be available from summer next year.

Finally, there are a set of M Performance accessories, including front and rear floormats, a little leather pouch for your key, and some motorsport-style tyre bags, all of which carry M branding.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but they presumably won’t be too much more of a stretch for anyone dropping at least £110,500 on the new M5. Especially anyone who really likes carbon fibre.
