Land Rover Australia has dropped a clanger, accidentally publishing photos of the all-new 2017 Discovery hours before the media were due to set eyes on it. Oops.

The images show the car’s exterior without any disguises for the first time, and there’s no great shock in the fact that it looks so much like the Evoque and Discovery Sport. One feature the newly lifestyley Disco maintains, though, is the off-centre rear number plate. It’s purely as a nod to heritage rather than for a practical reason, and we’re not sure it works with the new design.

We’d imagine the conversation at Land Rover Australia went something like this: “Is this public yet, mate?” “Yeah, probably mate.” “Ace, mate, I’ll sling these pictures online then.” Since then there might have been more than one “strewth!”, too…

Let us know what you think of the Disocovery’s new and oh-so-on-trend looks.

I like it. I like that keeps the Discovery Heritage to have glass on the cargo zone, so all your groceries are nice and hot by the time you get home.

My 2004 Discovery 2 has heat insulating glass; I’d be amazed if the new ones don’t. In mine, the interior stays nice and cool despite the car being metallic black, with black leather.

If they give it a square rear number plate, that’d look ace.

Can’t wait to work with the new Disco!

I don’t have the pictures anymore, but I swear I saw one of these last month when I delivered to a guy who works at a Jaguar/Range Rover dealership. I triple checked to see if it was a Range Rover and it said Discovery. Looked identical to this, just in white.
