Here it is, the new US-spec Honda Civic sedan. According to Honda it’s a "new-from-the-ground-up design", and while it’s really not the most radical thing to look at, there are plenty of details worthy of your attention. Firstly, the engines. The car has been announced today with a choice of two, a 2.0-litre N/A four-pot, and - crucially - a 1.5-litre turbo, America’s first blown Honda engine.

No word on power outputs just yet, but Honda’s billing the latter engine as "the most powerful engine ever offered on a non-Si Civic in America", and says that it’s capable of "in excess" of 40mpg (US). The bad news? While the 2.0-litre gets the option of a six-speed manual, the turbo will only be available with a CVT transmission. Boo.

It’s stuffed full of tech billed as ‘Honda Sensing’. And while that might sound like the Civic is a sensitive soul that knows when you’ve had a crappy day, it’s actually a range of safety features including "Collision Mitigation Braking", "Road Departure Mitigation" and adaptive cruise control, among other things. If you’re into phone syncing you’re well catered for too, as it’s compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The tech side is all well and good, but what if you want a quicker one? There’s good news on that front: as well as being promised a coupe and five-door hatchback version of the 10th-gen Civic, Si and - more importantly - Type R models will be joining the line up in the USA at a later date. Enticing stuff…
