Is The New Honda Civic Type R Actually Better Than The Focus RS And WRX STI?
The newest Honda Civic Type R has promised so much after the short and successful run of its shouty FK2 predecessor, and it’s safe to say CT’s own Alex is a fan, calling it the best front-wheel drive car ever. But Doug DeMuro thinks it still falls short of the Ford Focus RS and the Subaru WRX STI in some crucial areas.
306bhp might sound like a lot, especially for a front-wheel-drive hatchback, but it loses out to the Ford by around 50bhp. Both the Ford and Subaru also come with four-wheel-drive, and 0-60 times of just over 4.5 seconds, whereas the Civic is roughly a second slower.
Doug says that he wants the Type R to have more noise and for the styling to be toned down a tad. Most of us at CT like the bonkers, aero-led aesthetic, but maybe we’re weird.

It’s cool that the Civic is 4mph father than the Focus RS. But Focus RS and WRX STI are still better cars for sure!
But does it have a bumper-to-bumper warranty?
I tried to watch this video all the way through but when this moron started complaining about the aero on the car without a single clue to have read any of the tech documents I lost interest fast. I wouldn’t call him a moron if he actually did his research but he didn’t. Such a shame such people call themselves car journalist these days.

He’s a journalist, not a car guy and embarrasses the Car Throttle name in 90% of his reviews…. and this is coming from somebody who’s not a fan of honda

There is a reason why honda keeps producing FWD hot hatches.
Do you know the difference between bhp and whp? Have you heard of awd losses? Have you driven a awd car in the summer? It’s boring and expensive. Sure, the type R most probably won’t be my choice for a winter car, but for the other 3 seasons - for sure.
