New Jeep Wrangler Gets 1 Star Crash Test Rating, Fiat Panda Scores 0
Remember how the Fiat Punto scored a dismal zero stars in a Euro NCAP test? It had the dubious honour of being the only car in the safety organisation’s history to end up with such a result.
Now though, it has another car to keep it company. Yep, another car has come away with no stars at all. And rather awkwardly, it’s another Fiat.
Like the Punto, the Panda is an older car in Fiat’s line-up which, and when tested under NCAP’s now more stringent parameters, it too came up short. It wasn’t able to score more than 50 per cent in any of the test categories, and most concerning of all, it managed just 16 per cent when it came to Child Occupant Protection.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also had a new car in the same round of Euro NCAP testing, in the form of the Jeep Wrangler. It fared better than the Punto, but barely, managing just one star out of five. In managed 50 per cent in the Adult Occupant category, and was marked down for a lack of autonomous emergency braking system.
There were issues with a deforming footwell, while “the make-up of the dashboard was seen to present a risk to occupants,” Thatcham Research director Matthew Avery said. The two results now mean that the three worst-scoring cars ever tested by Euro NCAP are all from FCA.
Responding to the results, an FCA UK spokesperson told Car Throttle: “Safety is of the utmost importance at FCA, and as such, our latest Jeep Wrangler and Fiat Panda comply with all safety legislation in every market in which they are sold.”

That dab tho
Well this panda coud score up to 4 stars in latin n cap.
It got 3 in america…but its a basically the most primitve new car you can buy in america that you can remove almost all the body panels from and still be able to drive it. What did you expect
It is pure German bias. Why was the Panda tested 3 times, but VW Up! Was tested only once when it came out (would score simmilarly). Also Wrangler isn’t an unsafe car. They just do not waste money on useless non mandatory safety crap like lane departure warnings and automatic braking.
I feel like having none of that stuff would actually be better, especially if you drove a tin can on wheels as you’d either concentrate on the road on or your phone and hopefully die. The only problem with car safety I see nowadays is excessive tech which distracts the driver. All cars should be equiooed with a small phone signal jammer and phones should lock themselves up when moving in a car. Eveb for passangers it would be better as maybe they’d be able to see the world around them at least for that brief moment they are in a car.
Tech… This is what is killing you in new cars. I am totally fine driving my 1996 megane which score 4 stars back in its day and all it has are electric windows, AC, electric mirrors, ABS, simple factory radio and 150hp under the hood.
P.S. the only safety feature in my car other than airbags - ABS, is not even working xd
It’s pure german bias
The Jeep Compas received five stars. The Suzuki Jimny which has a similar construction to the wrangler managed three stars. Newer Fiats in their range manage four and five.
It’s not German bias, the wrangler and panda are just very poor cars by today’s standards.
A 1996 Megane was four stars back in 1996. Today it wouldn’t even qualify.
Still l though, it’s no Nissan Tsuru
So much hate for Jimny scoring three. Lol.
