The New Porsche Macan Looks Like A Cayenne But Is More Like An Audi Q5
This is the new Porsche Macan. It looks just like its bigger brother, the Cayenne, shares the same platform as the Audi Q5 and borrows its name from the Indonesian word meaning tiger.
Set to hit showrooms in April, Porsche's new Q5 and Range Rover Evoque rival costs between £43,300 and £59,300 and comes with a choice of three engines: a 340hp, 3.0-litre V6 in the Macan S, a 400hp, 3.6-litre V6 in the Turbo and a 258hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel in the Diesel S.
Described by Porsche as the 'most dynamic vehicle in the compact SUV segment,' the Macan gets active all-wheel drive and a seven-speed PDK double-clutch transmission as standard. 0-62mph times are claimed to be 4.8sec, 5.4sec and 6.3sec for the Turbo, Macan S and Diesel S respectively. Top speeds for each car are 165mph, 158mph and 143mph.
Design cues have (apparently) been taken from the 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar. You'll see similarities between the two models in their headlight designs, steering wheels and front doors.
Standard features on the Macan include 18-inch rims (you can spec 21s on any model), double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, electric power steering, a sports button - which quickens the SUV's throttle response and holds onto the gears for longer between changes - and massive brakes of up to 360mm front and 356mm rear diameter.
Inside the Macan's cabin, you get a sloping centre console and lashings of leather. Opt for the Turbo and your adaptive sports seats get 18-way adjustability. Because racecar.
Optional extras include air suspension, which raises the Macan's ride height by 40mm to give 230mm ground clearance. Obviously, this car will only be driven by rich mums on the school run, so best to stay away from this likely expensive option.
