The New Porsche Macan Turbo Will Crush 0-62mph In 4.3 Seconds

Porsche has released details of the range-topping Macan, and although 700cc has gone walkabout it’s even quicker than before

The new Porsche Macan Turbo has arrived, swapping the old 3.6-litre turbocharged engine for a 2.9-litre ‘hot V6’.

The unit, where the two turbos sit between the two banks of three cylinders apiece and help limit turbo lag, is already used in the Panamera and Cayenne. It brings a 38bhp boost versus the old 3.6-litre V6, with headline figures of 434bhp and 406lb ft. Peak torque is yours between 1800rpm and 5600rpm.

In case you’re wondering, yes, this does make a difference. Brace for words you see a lot in Porsche press releases: with the optional Sport Chrono pack, the new Macan Turbo is some 0.3 seconds quicker off the line to 62mph, achieving the feat in a sports car-baiting 4.3 seconds. Top speed is up to 168mph.

A revised and optimised chassis now features Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) as standard. The discs feature a tungsten carbide coating for a faster bite, lower wear and, apparently, up to 90 per cent less brake dust. We like, and suffice it to say the 1945kg car should stop pretty well, which is always handy. They’re marked out by a high gloss disc finish and white calipers.

Air suspension is only optional, as is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), although it sounds like the latter isn’t really necessary. What is standard now is a new 18-way adjustable pair of front seats with a ‘comfort memory package.’

It will tow 2.4 tonnes, slips just below the 2.1-metre mark for width including its mirrors, can theoretically return 28.8mpg and is available to order now.

New optional extras include a heated windscreen, an interior air ioniser and a smartphone cradle with Qi wireless charging. You can also spec the 15mm smaller and heated ‘GT sport’ steering wheel from the 911 range.

🎺🎺thank mr skeltal

A 0-60 time of 4.3s is absolutely insane, for context that’s just as quick as a Ferrari F40

And it’ll be far more difficult to actually achieve that time with the F40 than with the Macan!
