New S2000 Rumours Gather Pace With Plans For Twin-Charged Engine

We'd be first in line to ask for a brand new S2000, since two CT staff have owned them and most of the rest us have driven one, and the exciting new project could incorporate an electric supercharger

We know the supposed ‘new S2000’ saga has been going on for a long time, now, but we can’t help getting a bit excited about the latest development.

Car and Driver has sourced content from Japan’s Holiday Auto magazine, suggesting a two-stage boosting system that combines a turbo and an electrically driven supercharger, similar to a system we’ve already seen from Mitsubishi.

In theory, that would eliminate turbo lag while producing as much as 320bhp in the rumoured rear-wheel drive roadster. The engine, says Car and Driver, would be longitudinally mounted and coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (damn).

We really hope this turns out to be true, to recreate the S2000’s glorious driving experience for the modern era. We also hope it has a manual option, but hey, you can’t have everything.

It won’t be launched before 2018, and it could be pushed even further back, so don’t hold your breath, but we want it.

If the S2000 was called S2000 because of the new Milennia, surely this one would be called the S2020 or something along those lines (Yes I know it actually refers to Displacement of the engine but there is no harm in theorising)
