The New Thor Film’s Spaceships Are Named After Holdens
Listen closely to the names of the space craft in the latest Marvel movie, Thor: Ragnarok, and you might notice something strange.
In an interview with YouTube channel triple j, director Taika Waititi revealed that he specifically named ships in the movie after Holden cars. A large craft at the end of the film is called the Statesman, while a ship the characters escape on is called the Commodore.
Others are called the Kingswood and the Torana. We can’t promise any of them run on whacking great V8 engines or would make good racecars after some time with a professional tuner, but it’s a pretty cool move nonetheless.
Holden was sadly shut down earlier this year as General Motors scrambles to cut costs, but this is a respectful tribute to a golden age of Australian motoring gone by. As the film was mostly shot in Australia, Waititi, who’s of Maori descent, squeezed a lot of local influence into the film including parts of the cast.
The movie should hit a cinema near you in early November. Expect loud noises.

it was suggested for the main theme, but got sadly rejected :(
Triple J is actually a radio station broadcast nationally by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and internationally online. A little more than just their YouTube channel, haha.
Also Holden wasn’t shut down… Just local production.
This is actually great.
