The Next A45 AMG Has Over 400bhp And A Fierce Nickname
The next Mercedes-AMG A45 will come with over 400bhp and is so extreme that company insiders are calling it ‘the Predator.’
Autocar is reporting that AMG boss Tobias Moers has confirmed the car’s existence and intent. Like the current car it won’t be a hybrid and will still have four cylinders and four fist-friendly oval exhaust tips.
The magazine quotes Moers as saying:
“It’s going to be the next step in every perspective, including driving dynamics.”
He also confirmed that a softer, halfway-house model named the A35 will join the range to offer something more akin to a Golf GTI in all-round usability. It could be called the A32 4Matic or A36 4Matic, will use a different engine block and develop brake horsepower in the low 300s.
Recent pictures of the next A45 have shown it running very low to the ground. Speculation surrounds a bespoke chassis with adjustable dampers that will allow the car to run in an ultra-low ‘track mode.’ The nose is barely above the ground in some images, while the wheel arches descend even below the top of the tyres.
Its mission is clearly to be faster than the 394bhp Audi RS3, specifically on track. The fettled M133 four-banger should jump above the 400bhp mark and gain at least 20lb ft. Autocar says the aim is to bring the 0-62mph time down to four seconds or less.
Part of a suite of upgrades will be four-wheel drive that reacts faster, sending power to the rear wheels more quickly and with a greater ability to vary the split between axles.
