Ladies and gentlemen: lock up your VW Golf Rs and Renaultsport Meganes, because the new Honda Civic Type R is here. And damn, does it look angry.

It’s been revealed ahead of its the Paris Motor Show debut in prototype form, and while previous reports had indicated that the 10th generation Civic-based Type R would have its looks toned down compared to the crazed ninth-gen car, but if this prototype is anything to go by, that isn’t going to happen.

We have a front splitter, a pair of side skirts and a rear diffuser made from carbonfibre, a huge bonnet vent, and of course, a spoiler of Brobdingnagian proportions sitting on the boot. To up the visual aggression further, the show car is finished in a “highly reflective, finely-grained brushed aluminium-effect.”

And that’s about all we know for now. Under the bonnet we’re expecting the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder as seen in the current Type R, albeit with a little more power on tap. A figure closer to the 345bhp enjoyed by the Focus RS, we’re thinking.

A production version will be revealed next year, and yes, you will be able to buy it in North America for the first time.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this is one of the best looking Type-R, still looks impressive and lovable to watch? Kinda miss the old days design of Performance > Appearence…

Definitely agree that the EK is one of the best looking, but to be fair the new one definitely has the performance to back up the looks.

Am I the only one that sees 3 exhaust pipes?

You’re not. I wonder if the middle one is a straight dump-pipe from the turbo, a la Ferrari F40.

It doesn’t need to punch every hot hatch in the face: it’s already delivered a fist straight to my nose and then my genitals, just for being ‘meh’ about Hondas. God help those who don’t like Hondas.

Pretty soon it’ll stop being a hatch and morph into full sedan. Look at that side profile

It looks absolutely gorgeous in my (unpopular) opinion! But then again I like the Lexus IS and NX (the really edgy ones) as well so…
