The Next Honda Civic Type R Has Been Spotted At The 'Ring And It Looks Just As Mad As The Current One

Judging by this footage from the Nurburgring, Honda's next Civic Type R will still be the bonkers tearaway of the hot hatch class

We know from first-hand experience with our long-term test example that the current Honda Civic Type R is a bit of a belter, so the next one should be some piece of kit. The 10th generation Civic is after all a little lighter and has a lower centre of gravity, so drop in an evolution of the ninth-gen Type R’s suspension setup and 306bhp engine, and you’ve the recipe for something quite special.

We can expect the power output to rise, and from the sounds of this spy footage, a slightly more interesting exhaust note should come as part of the deal. We anticipate the car will stick with a front-wheel drive layout, and nothing in the video seems to suggest otherwise.

What’s clear even with the presence camouflage, is that the 2018 Type R should look just as lairy from the outside. There’s still an obnoxious rear wing and muscular wheel arch bulges, and this time the bonnet is vented - a hint at that more powerful engine we’re expecting and its greater cooling demands.

Of course, what would a sports Honda model be without a VTEC engine…?!

Looks like they’re trying to beat the wing record (thanks to that huge ring)!

I first looked at the picture and thought it would be a Wrx, but then I saw the Civic rear and thought: good job, non carguys will be confused

Honda has put a massivs rear wing to it, so owners won’t need to.

So it will also look like a regular civic crashed through “pimp my ride” set on the way to the dealers?

The new Type-Rs look freaking amazing. Especially the aggressive front and slightly raised back. Mad respect, Honda.
