Next V8 'Vette To Churn Out 450hp+

General Motors has shown it's revised V8 engine for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. It will churn out 'at least' 450hp! Alrighty then...

Thought the current Chevrolet Corvette was a monster? Think again. This week, General Motors showed off its spanking new V8 powerplant, that will lower the next 'Vette's 0-62mph time to under 4sec!

While the new unit displaces the same 6.2-litres as the current car, power has been dialed up to 'at least' 450hp, according to GM boffins. That's an increase of around 20hp. Torque is also beefed up by 25lb ft to 450lb ft.

So what's new?

We won't bore you with too many details, but three things that make this new unit more powerful than before as well as one of the cleanest V8s around include:

1. Direct fuel injection - fuel is sprayed directly into the cylinder for better economy2. Cylinder deactivation - yes, your next 'Vette will be a four cylinder at times3. Continuously variable camshaft timing - don't know what it is? Don't worry, it's too dull to care about...

While 450hp sounds great, you'll be pleased to hear that this figure is just the beginning. Performance versions are in the GM pipeline. But we'll have to wait until the Detroit motor show in January to know more...
