The Nio EP9 Is A Nurburgring Record-Breaker That Costs The Same As 16 Dodge Demons

Sometimes a performance car is just straight-up too expensive, and we reckon the fully-electric Nio EP9 is a perfect example

If you want to own the fastest electric car in the world around the Nurburgring, the Circuit of the Americas in Texas and Paul Ricard in southern France, you’ll have to shell out the same price as about 16.5 Dodge Demons.

NextEV, the parent company behind the new Chinese EV brand Nio, has revealed the pricing for the EP9 supercar, and you may need to brace yourself for this one. The $1.48 million (£1.15 million) hyper-EV puts out a megawatt of power (1341bhp) to justify its asking price, but it still costs roughly $1.2 million (£936,000) more than a Lamborghini Huracan Performante, which, if you’re after bragging rights, laps the Green Hell 13 seconds faster than the Nio.

The EP9 has already been built as a batch of six units, which were all sold ‘to investors.’ Now, a second batch of 10 is on the cards, with each one made to order. It’s not clear whether customisation will cost extra, but it certainly does with other hypercar makers.

In related news, Nio has also launched its first normal car for the Chinese market; a car that the company hopes will ride the wave of publicity given to the two-seat, race-inspired EP9. It’s, err, a large, seven-seat all-electric SUV. Don’t worry, we don’t get it either.

With that price tag, I assume they are trying to grab the Koenigsegg / Pagani segment of EV car customers.

Best car for criminals, it can go fast because it is faster than an i8 and best of all the police won’t hear you coming

But you’d be obvious in a car with looks like that. A P100D would be more discreet.

Or it’s about half the price of a Bugatti Chiron and has almost as much power but will cost less to run

Yea, when you buy a car for that money you surely care about running cost. Also one of the reasons it’s half the price is that it doesn’t have a powerfull badge, history and heritage like a Bugatti
