Nissan Is Chasing Tesla With Its First Fully Autonomous Car

Nissan has begun testing of fully-autonomous cars in Japan, with a view to rolling the technology out to consumers by 2020.
The company has fitted a suite of complex electronics to an Infiniti Q50 that’s now biffing around the streets of Tokyo. A development of the ProPilot system in use today, the special autonomous Q50 has 12 sonar sensors, 12 cameras, nine millimetre-wave radars, six laser scanners, a high-definition map and a Nespresso machine in the dashboard. We might have made that last one up.

We’re told that the Q50 will be able to navigate tricky junctions without, err, doing a Mustang. Nissan says it will navigate unexpected obstacles smoothly and will give a “human-like driving feel.”
Let’s hope it replicates someone who doesn’t nearly kill you every time they do they driving (we all know that guy).

Takao Asami, Nissan’s senior vice president in charge of research and advanced engineering, said:
“Ingenuity is at the heart of everything we do at Nissan. Our next-generation ProPILOT prototype showcases technology that will be available for real-world use from 2020.
“Today’s demonstration is another example of our successful work toward creating an autonomous driving future for all.”

Everyone thinks it’s such a big deal, the new golf has basically done it already with the lane assist and radar guided cruse control lol, that’s all you need
Don’t mind me, I’m just counting all of the things that can and/or will go wrong.
When your lazy af and you love jdm
What his Nissan doing. 15 years ago they were producing Silvis, skylines, 300zx and now they are making Nissan leafs and this piece of crap.
And much more profit, ironically
Nissan: GET OWN ELON MUSK Elon Musk: eh so ill just sell more Tesla stuff..
I can use the same arguments against that. Autonomous cars, because of then AI system and the supplementary tech, makes for much more jobs than normal carmaking jobs + one chauffeur.
Also, while autonomous cars aren’t reliable yet, the technology is bound to improve. Plus let’s not act as if human drivers are infallible…
Here’s why I’m against autonomous cars: First of all, everyone on this website hates cars like the prius and instead, loves fast fun cars. We all love to drive. Autonomous cars on their own are cool, but once they take off and become popular, more and more manufacturers will move to EV’s and self-driving cars, and they’ll move to a subscription service to the point where insurance companies will make driving your own car impossible to afford. So bottom line, if autonomous EV cars become the new norm, it spells the end for car culture except for the very wealthy. Cars will cease to be a lifestyle and instead will become something you see in museums or go to a track to rent a car as a novelty. Like gokarts…
No locking brakes, no tough direct steering, no minding of loosing grip or traction, no focusing to keeping a consistent cruising speed, no need to worry about braking before hitting the car in front, no more shifting gears and last but not least no more driving! How cool is that?! Making driving so easy that we get rid of driving altogether! Heck we should get rid of cars altogether! :))
I think the lesson learned here is: never be bought by the croissant guys
But a R35 drivetrain and call it a day. What’s with this autopilot BS?
THE R36 EVERYONE.
even more computer than ever before!!!
