Official BMW M4 Specs: 6-Speed Manual, 424bhp And Stacks Of Carbonfibre
Full specs of BMW's hottest M3/M4 model in history have been revealed - the biggest news is that the model will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Phew...
The M3/M4's 3.0-litre, twin mono-scroll turbocharged straight-six engine produces 424bhp at 7500rpm and "far beyond" 369lb ft torque - the exact number is something BMW is keeping close to its chest at the moment. Looking at the dyno chart below - posted on Bimmerpost.com earlier - the torque gains and behaviour compared with the previous generation's are notable.
Further features of the new M model include a 1500kg kerb weight for the M4 coupe (making it around 45kg lighter than the third-gen E46 M3) thanks to extensive use of carbonfibre, which makes up the car's roof, driveshaft, boot lid and front strut brace. The new M model's magnesium oil sump also keeps weight low.
Next to the six-speed manual 'box that comes as standard, customers can opt for a seven-speed M DCT with launch control. Average MPG figures are said to be around 25 per cent better than those of the V8's, which would suggest upwards of 32mpg.
The M3/M4's optional adaptive M suspension and electric steering are programmable to three modes, which include Comfort, Sport, Sport+. Selecting between these steering modes adjusts the level of steering assistance.
Both the new M3 and M4 coupe will be revealed together at the Detroit NAIAS in January.
