Official: Caterham Has Sold Its F1 Team

Amid persistent rumours that the Caterham F1 team was on the verge of being sold, it’s now been officially revealed that the Leafield outfit has been passed over to new owners. Caterham Group owner Tony Fernandes dropped a huge hint a few days ago when he tweeted ‘F1 hasn’t worked. Love Caterham cars,’ and it’s now been confirmed that a consortium of Swiss and Middle-Eastern investors has bought the team. Former Hispania Racing and Jordan team principal Colin Kolles will act as an advisor, and former F1 driver Christijan Albers will run the team.

Fernandes will remain owner of Caterham Cars and all its subsidiaries, while the team will retain the Caterham name, its Leafield HQ and its staff.

The team hasn’t exactly enjoyed a successful time in Formula 1 so far. It joined the grid in 2010 under the name Lotus Racing, and has failed to score a single point since its creation.
