Official Details of The 986bhp McLaren P1 GTR Track Weapon Will Blow Your Mind
The standard McLaren P1 is a ridiculously fast hypercar that, along with its LaFerrari and Porsche 918 competitors, has redefined our interpretation of how fast a road car can be. But it was no surprise to learn that an even more hardcore version was on the way, and now we have the all-important details.
The new track-only P1 GTR takes its name from the legendary F1 GTR that competed at Le Mans 20 years ago. The standard car’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and electric motor combo will get a makeover to deliver 986bhp, up from 903bhp.
That’s a quite incredible jump in output, and with no need to comply with road legislation, the GTR will take extreme measures to ensure blistering track performance. Race slicks, a widened track and more aggressive styling have been promised.
It’ll set you back a substantial £1.98m, which will get you the car as well as access to key McLaren personnel, racing simulators and invites to a minimum of six drive events held at Formula 1 race tracks around the world. Production numbers haven’t been revealed, but it will be strictly limited.
