The 2015 Mustang was revealed some time ago, but we’ve been kept in the dark on two key details: power and weight. Now, though, Ford has officially announced both figures for all of the ‘Stang’s powerplants, so at last we get to see how much punch the new pony will have. First up is the entry-level 3.7-litre V6, which develops 296bhp and 280lb ft. Next is the more economical 2.3-litre four-pot Ecoboost, which gets 306bhp and 320lb ft. And the one we’re most interested in, the 5.0-litre V8 GT, churns out 429bhp and 400lb ft.

As well as power, we’ve also been anxious to find out the weights of the different versions, amid all the rumours that the sixth generation ‘Stang had piled on the pounds compared to the current model. Thankfully, it turns out the rumours were nonsense, as the weight figures for all three versions of the muscle car are barely different to those of the fifth-gen Mustang.

The new V6 tips the scales at 1599kg, a mere 13.5kg more than the current 3.7-litre, while the GT weighs in at 1680kg, an increase of 39kg (manual gearbox model figures quoted). The all-new Ecoboost model, meanwhile, weighs 1602kg. Considering the car is now wider and the basic live rear axle has been ditched for a more complex independent suspension setup, those are respectably low increases.

The big deal with the new ‘Stang for us Brits, of course, is that it’ll be officially sold in the UK for the first time, and in right-hand drive. UK specs shouldn’t be hugely different to the US, and these will be revealed closer to the car’s launch in Britain early next year. We can’t wait.
