Official: Raikkonen Will Race For Ferrari In 2014

The news has finally arrived; Kimi Raikkonen will drive for Ferrari in the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship. 

The 'Iceman' has signed a two year contract to return to the Maranello based team. The Finn currently races for Enstone based Lotus, a team that he joined in 2012 after two years away from the sport.

The 33-year-old will partner Fernando Alonso at the Scuderia, forming arguably the strongest line-up on the 2014 grid, after Felipe Massa confirmed his departure from the team at the end of 2013 on Tuesday.

The Brazilian, who has spent eight years at the Formula 1's most successful team, confirmed in a statement released on his Instragram account (I know, random) that he will depart from the team and seek a new drive for 2014.

The statement read: "From 2014 I will no longer be driving for Ferrari. I would like to thank the team for all the victories and incredible moments experienced together. Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining seven races."

Raikkonen, who is arguably F1's most popular character, last raced for Ferrari in 2009. However he left the team one year before his contract ended to compete in world rallying, although he seemed to spend most of his time crashing.

An official statement on Raikkonen's return to Ferrari said: "Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has reached an agreement with Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn will join Fernando Alonso in the driver line-up for the next two racing seasons."

The occasional gorilla-suit wearing Finn is the last Ferrari driver to win the drivers' championship. The announcement breaks Ferrari's usual philosophy of having a number one and number two driver.

We will have to wait and see how that works out, but one thing is for certain; we can't wait to see Kimi in red once again.
