The One-Off, 488-Based Ferrari SP38 Is Here And We're In Love
When one is really, really, rich, one doesn’t simply buy a Ferrari. One buys a specially-commissioned Ferrari that no other soul on Planet Earth is allowed to own.
We’re talking about Maranello’s One-Off programme, which gives jolly well-off people the chance to clad an existing Ferrari product in whatever kind of clothing they desire. The latest is called the SP38, and it’s a bit of a looker, isn’t it?
It’s based on a 488 GTB, and although Ferrari hasn’t confirmed, we’re assuming the oily bits have been left alone. But the bodywork? That’s all-new.
There are various visual nods to the F40 including the engine cover assembly and its spectacular louvres. The “slim bumper lip” is supposed to reference the 308 GTB, meanwhile. From some angles though, we can’t help but be reminded of the 430 Scuderia-based ‘New Stratos’ concept that first emerged in 2010.
The interior has been treated to a “full Tailor Made” finish, although Ferrari hasn’t revealed any images of the cabin. We’re shown plenty of the exterior however, which sports a dashing three-layer metallic red finish.
As is standard procedure for One-Off programme cars, Ferrari hasn’t given any clue as to how much this commissioning cost. But, it’s almost certainly well within “more than you can afford, pal” territory.
It’ll be on display at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy this weekend.

Is it me or do the lights look a little Lamborghini?
That looks disgusting from the front. The entire front of the car is grill.
Woah!!!! Really looks nice!!! #ForzaFerrari
Why couldn’t the 488 look like that anyway!!
beautiful love it ! kinda looks like a lotus from the back tho
Am I the only one that thinks it looks like a Huracán mixed with the armored Viper from the TV show? (for some reason, I can’t post a picture with my comment)
It looks exactly like a Huracan
This is honestly how the 488 should have looked, a little strange in the traditional sense but also evoking the beauty of the past and the design of the future.
Lotus, centenario, new vantage, hurucan, chiron mix-up
Looks like Ferrari and Lamborghini had a child
Looks very nice. Has some lotus and alfa feelings in it
