Organisers Of Swiss Hill Climb Handed £4k Fine For Hammond's Rimac Crash

Switzerland's national motorsport authority has fined the organisers of the Hemberg Bergrennen hill climb over the crash that left Richard Hammond with a fractured knee

Auto Sport Schweiz - Switzerland’s national motorsport authority - has not taken kindly to the organisers of the Hemberg Bergrennen hill climb. As a reminder, that’s the event at which Richard Hammond had his dramatic crash in a Rimac Concept One, leaving the presenter with a franctured knee. And as a result of the accident, the organisers have been slapped with a 5000 CHF (£4000) fine.

Hammond - plus his Grand Tour cohorts Jeremy Clarkson and James May - were taking part in demonstration runs separate to the competition, and according to Motorsport.com, Auto Sport Schweiz has ruled these went against the FIA’s international Sporting Code. The body also claimed that the runs were not in the interests of the sport.

In addition to the fine, the race director plus three stewards have been given six month license suspensions - suspended over six months. The high-profile crash - which resulted in the destruction of the Rimac electric hypercar - is thought to have put the future of the hill climb at risk.

Also, what the hell does “not in the interests of the sport” mean? If there wasnt a crash, it would be great publicity for the hillclimb, which seems like the interests of the sport to me.

Wait…
6 months of suspension, suspended for 6 months.
So…nothing happens to their licenses at all, since the suspensions are suspended?
