Plans for another dramatic overhaul of the F1 regulations have been delayed until at least 2017, after teams voted against a rules revolution being introduced next year.

Several sources, including Autosport, report that the proposals have been postponed following a meeting of the F1 Commission in Geneva on Tuesday.

The introduction of a major overhaul to the car regulations for 2016 was discussed, which would have resulted in wider cars, larger tyres and bodywork modifications to increase downforce.

The vote split remains unclear, although Ferrari’s new team principal Maurizio Arrivabene recently backed calls by Niki Lauda to boost F1’s spectacle. The team also revealed a striking concept design ahead of the F1 Commission meeting, showing the overhaul in car design that it thinks is necessary to bring excitement back to the sport, but with minimal changes to the current regulations.

Autosport also reports that drivers will be banned from making in-season helmet design changes from this year onwards, after it was agreed by the F1 Commission. It is set to be ratified by the World Motor Sport Council.
