Polestar Is Building Its Own High-Performance Electric Cars And The First One Arrives This Year
Volvo’s partner-in-speed Polestar is branching out into a new range of performance EVs, according to a new report, and the first one is just months away.
Auto Express has written that Volvo’s parent company, Geely, wants to use the Polestar name and the technical expertise behind it to build a brand that will, they hope, become an electric equivalent of what AMG is to Mercedes. Talk about jumping in at the deep end…
Polestar cars will use Volvo’s Scaleable Product Architecture (SPA) and Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which form the basis of the latest XC60 and the range of 90-series models. It’s likely that they will be made in the same plants, too.
We don’t know anything about the Swedish AMG’s first car yet, or when exactly to expect it. Our money is on a new mid-sized hatchback or saloon based on the XC60’s platform, a chassis that will ultimately also go to the next V60. The framework is ready and waiting to be adapted to electric power, and it seems logical to us that Polestar would start with a mid-size car with broad consumer appeal.
Geely seems to be loving the Polestar brand, because on top of making it a manufacturer in its own right, it’s set to become the global face of the Chinese firm’s collective motorsport efforts, the magazine says. It’s also set to stay right where it is, in Gothenburg, Sweden. All the better to coordinate with Volvo, after all.

It’ll be like a Tesla, except Swedish and well-made
Tesla aren’t build that badly….pretty good for an American car. But yeah, these are totally gonna be better and way more fun. Also, doesn’t matter that 0-60 likely won’t be as fast as Tesla’s because I think these Polestars will actually exceed 250km/h unlike any Tesla
GO POLESTAR RING RECORD!!!!! whiirrrrrr
this was a shock to the system…
“Swedish AMG” has me triggered for some reason
Bright blue fast electric tanks. I like where this is going…well, maybe not the electric bit, but still
Oooooh, this is exciting news to me as a Gothenburger!
