Here's a rare opportunity to bag a barely used example of the quirky-looking 964 911-based Speedster

Limited-run Porsches don’t get much quirkier than this. It’s the 964 911 Speedster, of which fewer than 1000 were made, and only 139 in right-hand drive.

Intended as an homage to the original 356 Speedster, these 3.2-litre Carrera-based machines were given a lower roofline and a distinctive raked windscreen, with two humps added to the fibreglass clamshell tonneau cover.

The results are, well, a tad weird. It’s a curious-looking brute with the fabric roof up or down, but we rather like it. And despite sporting the ‘lesser’ 3.2-litre N/A powertrain, it has the body and chassis of the 930 Turbo.

The particular example we’re looking at here has barely been used since leaving the factory in 1989, with just 5590 miles on the clock. The right-hand drive Speedster was originally delivered to New South Wales, Australia, and exported to the UK in 2014.

It’ll be auctioned at Silverstone circuit by Silverstone Auctions on 13 May. The estimate is £145,000 - £165,000, which in the world of bonkers Porsche prices is almost reasonable…

I love the thickness of the windshield on the speedsters! Thin and low!
