Porsche and Microsoft have recently announced a big racing game event that’ll take place simultaneous to the actual Le Mans 24 Hours. The massive gaming marathon is called the “Forza Racing Championship (Forza RC) Season 3: The Porsche Cup” and will feature top racing gamers going against each other in a 24-hour race.

It’s thanks to Forza, Microsoft and the Automobile Club de L’Ouest (ACO) all teaming up to create an exciting new event and opportunity for racing gamers to show how good they are. Qualifying rounds have already been taking place and end on the 28 May, with the final stretching from the 17-18 June – at the same time as Le Mans.

All gamers will be driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid, and only had to have an Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 6 to take part – so, it’s been open to a wider range of racing gamers.

The winner will get prize money and the title of the “Official Endurance eSports Category” winner, newly-created by the ACO.

The final will be streamed by Microsoft on YouTube, Twitch and Beam, so you can dip in and out and keep track of how the 24-hour virtual race is going, while enjoying footage of the real Le Mans race too.

It seems, according to Porsche, the virtual endurance race will take place at the Le Mans track itself too. The event is another exciting addition to the eSports and motorsport sectors, too.

Porsche’s EA deal expired at the end of last year, opening up new gaming opportunities – which soon included a six-year Forza partnership, where we’ve already seen a load of Porsche cars hit Forza Horizon 3 in the form of a DLC.

But how will the race be if there is no dynamic time and weather? At least GT6 had it and GT Sport will at least support settings before racing…

But how do they want to manage driver switching like it’s done at the real deal ? There’s no way someone can play 24h forza without getting tired or, even worse, having to go to the toilet :D

So, will there be driver changes or are people supposed to race for 24 hours straight?
