Porsche Goes To Great Lengths To Explain Why Its Brakes Squeal
Porsche seems to like using its official YouTube to ‘correct’ the world on certain subjects. Just over a year ago the Stuttgart-based firm decided to post a video about how to pronounce its name properly (as Joey from Friends explained many years prior, it’s Por-sche not Porsch), and now, we have this four minute explanation about why Porsche brakes are supposed to make squealing noises.
Due to the forces involved in braking, vibrations - and therefore noises - from brake components are inevitable. Porsche’s cars are powerful and in many cases quite heavy, so they use bigger pads, meaning the portion of the pad contacting the brake rotor can vary at lower speeds, exacerbating squeal. Then there are other factors like temperature to bear in mind, but the message is clear: the noise does not mean your brakes are broken.
The reason Porsche has gone to these lengths to relay that message? We can’t help but think the top commenter on the YouTube video is on to something: “I’m guessing customers complain a lot.”
Comments
Customer: “My friends laugh when my car makes weird braking sound. How do I defend myself?”
Porsche: “Say no more.”
Since Porshce is from Germany, need I say more, because they go to great lengths explaining everything to the last detail, like the German Metric Horsepower which is accurate to the 105th Decimal place….thats what its like being German, I should know, I am a quarter German!
Oh yes Germans and their precision is absolutely fantastic!
I’m shocked to see that those who own Porsches and complain about this…like was it their first car… lucky them 😂😂
LOL
German precision.
Porsche be like
Soon they’re probably going to correct bad grammar in their comment section
xD
As one wise friend of mine once told me “when it squeals, that means she likes it”
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
Oh, I thought the squealing was because an army of Fast and Furry mice were scurrying around trying to slow the car down. Sorry, Porsche.
You can’t imagine how many Porsche owners complain about brake squeal…
And not only on the front engined Porsche… but also on GT3’s /GT4’s and the other sports car…
