Porsche Has Been Accused Of Cayman R UK Emissions Test Cheating

Porsche Great Britain has been accused of manipulating the results of the old Cayman R’s emissions tests to drop it into a cheaper road tax group.

Autocar is reporting that a report on an “unrelated safety issue” also uncovered that the Cayman R had repeatedly been driven away in second gear for the tests, keeping revs lower and significantly reducing the amount of CO2 emitted at urban speeds.

The 3.4-litre R was given a 221g/km rating for the UK, putting it into what was then a £315 annual tax payment bracket. Continental Europe rates the same car at 228g/km, which in the UK would have put it into the £540 window instead. Cheeky, if true.

The Times newspaper is speculating that the UK treasury has lost around £3 million as a result of potentially incorrect tax groups for Boxster S, Boxster Spyder, Cayman S and Cayman R models. Porsche has refused to comment, citing ongoing dieselgate legal proceedings involving one of its board members.

How is it cheating to be in a higher gear to keep revs and emissions low?

Isnt that how hypermiling or just regular economy driving works?

I wish most of the idiotic Euro’s would just shut up. They make all of the good people look bad. So what? It’s a sports car, it’s not supposed to be entirely economic.
