The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Is The EV Concept You Didn't Expect
We see most big motorshow reveals from a mile off. They’re either relentlessly teased, leaked before the big day, or a combination of the two. Some come as quite a surprise however, and few cars unveiled at Geneva this year were as unexpected as Porsche’s latest concept.
It’s an estate ‘Turismo’ take on the all-electric Mission E, which wouldn’t be massively surprising on its own, but Porsche also took the decision to turn the lifestyle up to 11 by making it into a jacked-up crossover concoction.
It’s called the Mission E Cross Turismo, and it’s a curious blend of the original Mission E saloon/coupe and the Panamera Sport Turismo. To go with the lifted suspension there are chunky tyres, tough protective cladding for when you lifestyle too hard, and natty blue wheels.
The powertrain sounds much the same as the Mission E’s. We’re looking at two ‘permanent magnet’ motors (these are more expensive to make than conventional motors, but more compact) and a power output exceeding 590bhp. 0-62mph happens in under 3.5 seconds, while 0-124mph is done and dusted in under 12. “Multiple accelerations are possible in direct succession without loss of performance,” Porsche says.
So far, so interesting, and it’s not just a curious Geneva show trinket - it’ll morph into Porsche’s second ever production electric car following the Mission E, with Porsche targeting a 2019 reveal. Expect to first see the production Mission E at some point this year, meanwhile.

When we were expecting to see the bombastic Mission E concept, Porsche came up like,

Geneva was really a great place for EVs
yeah…EVs of all kinds and by their own characteristics…it was great…
Porsche is like: Kick the Diesel, bring some Batteries.
Headlamps are bit mclaren-ish
Really not a fan of those mono-brow taillights tho
Hey, remember when we all thought that electric cars couldn’t be fun?
They still aren’t
Crossovers suck, but this is the kind I can certainly deal with
I think this is more like a beefed up wagon like an audi allroad
