This Is The £1m Lightweight Jaguar E-Type You'll Forever Dream Of Owning
Earlier this year, Jaguar announced that it would be building the final six lightweight E-Types that never made it off the production line 50 years ago. The car pictured here, is the first of the special six. Due to make their debut at the Pebble Beach concours event this weekend, each model is expected to sell for around £1 million.
In 1963 the original run was supposed to total 18 cars, but only 12 were made. By using the six undesignated chassis numbers, Jaguar’s Heritage team decided to hand-build ‘new’ cars using the original specifications. That means each car gets a 355bhp 3.8-litre straight-six engine based on the one that powered the D-Type to a 1957 Le Mans win.
The stand-out feature of these cars is the lightweight aluminium shell, which shaves 114kg off the standard E-Type’s weight. The Lightweight E-Type also gets old school rack and pinion steering and a thin wooden steering wheel.
Want one? Unfortunately, you probably won’t even be considered. Due to the way the cars are built, they’re eligible for historic races, and Jag is keen to sell to established collectors and people who’ll race them. On the plus side, seeing these cars driving properly is a gift to us all.
