£3.3m Buys You A Non-Road-Legal, Gadget-Laden Goldfinger Aston DB5
Having beautifully recreated a bunch of DB4 GTs, Aston Martin needed a follow-up continuation project. And the car chosen for the next batch should come as no surprise: it’s the DB5, quite possibly the most famous vehicle from the company’s back-catalogue.
Except Aston has gone one step further, choosing to make 25 painstakingly accurate replicas of the very DB5 made famous by James Bond film Goldfinger. That means it’ll be a 1964-spec car finished in Silver Birch, but most importantly, it’ll come with working gadgets. Oh yes.
Aston Martin has essentially hired its own Q for the job, in the form of Academy Award-winning special effects expert Chris Corbould OBE. He’s worked on fourteen Bond films in total, so he knows his onions.
Gaydon hasn’t listed exactly which gadgets will be present - the only one mentioned is the revolving number plate. We’re guessing there won’t be an ejector seat, for health and safety reasons…
Like the classic Corgi die-cast toy version of the car, it’s effectively just a display piece, because the £3.3 million recreations will not be road legal. Rather limits the usage of the things, doesn’t it? Although we suppose there’s nothing to stop any of the 25 owners turning up to a track day if they’re feeling brave enough…
On top of the customer cars, a further three vehicles are set to be built. One will be kept by Aston Martin, another is being given to Eon - the producers of the Bond film series - and the final car will be sold at a charity auction.

Replacing the indicators with automatic weapons isn’t road legal, who would have thought?
Really? Isn’t that normal in Russia?
“Do try to return it in one piece, 007”
“I said return it in one piece, not return one piece of it”
I said bring it back in one piece not bring back one piece 007
