Rally Fighter: The Most Badass Car You've Never Heard Of

Random assortment of parts? Check. Brain? MIA. Cue one of the craziest cars you've ever seen...

This is probably the most bizarre attempt to build an off-roader ever, but it’s as mean as Godzilla’s mum.

Called the Rally Fighter and built by American company Local Motors, this rear-wheel drive monster is powered by a whacking great Corvette V8, which pumps out 430bhp and 424lb ft of torque.

Features of the Rally Fighter - limited to 2000 units - include a suspension set-up, which has up to 20 inches of travel, plus massive 20-inch off-road wheels, a tubular steel space frame construction and door handles nicked from a first generation Mazda Miata (MX-5).

Priced at $100,000, the RF certainly isn't cheap, but that cost includes 6 days in the factory constructing your car with a friend, as well as training in how to drive this thing. Interesting...

Watch the Rally Fighter in action below as American Top Gear stages a race between your new favourite toy and an airboat – one of those sheets of metal with a huge engine and a propeller strapped to the back. And a seat, if you’re lucky. TG USA presenter, Tanner (is that really his first name?), gives it everything in pursuit of an ageing Texan nutjob who doesn't know how to count.

The bonkers Rally Fighter may have had a helping hand here and there (the airboat hardly looks flat-out at the finish) and bits seem to fall off the thing every time it takes a hit, but just imagine rocking up to the drive-thru in it
