This Rant About The "Truly Terrible" Mercedes Metris Is Incredibly Thorough
As with most car publications this week, we’ve experienced a bit of a Geneva Motor Show takeover. Now the news from the show is starting to tail off, though, allow us to present you with a nice antidote to the onslaught of new car reveals: a man ranting for 25 and a half minutes about a Mercedes minivan.
OK, that doesn’t sound all that appealing on the face of it, but before you close this window, stick with us. The man in question is the incredibly meticulous Doug DeMuro, and there’s something quite interesting about his in-depth takedown of everything that’s not quite right with the Metris - the North American market-version of the Vito minivan. From the bizarre seating issues to the sat nav which looks like it’s from 10 years ago, there’s a lot to cover.
It seems there was a bit of a backlash in the comments section from some viewers of this video, prompting DeMuro to post the following:
Angry Mercedes fans: “You’re wrong! This is a commercial shuttle van! You misunderstood it!”
Well, sweetie, it’s nice that Mercedes-Benz marketing has convinced you of this — but it’s the same size as a [Toyota] Sienna/[Honda] Odyssey, with the same price as a Sienna/Odyssey, and the same scope as a Sienna/Odyssey.
If I were buying a “commercial shuttle van,” I’d literally fall over laughing at the Metris … annnnnd then I’d buy a Sienna/Odyssey. Which is what everyone does anyway.

I don’t get what equivalent it is to the european lineup and naming. Here we have the V-class was named Viano before if I remember correctly. What is this metris?
It’s the passenger version of the Vito. V-Class is based is in the same ‘family’, but is much more luxurious, and much more expensive.
US, place where 40k buys you a top spec V8 sportscar or a plastic four cylinder van…
Need to move lol
So true, long live the muscle cars.
BRANDING INTENSIFIES
But can it blend?
Cmon guys don’t hate on it! It’s a van from 2007!
Oh wait, did he say 2017!?
Ohhhhh
Lol talking about a screen that looks 19 y/o. But the Metris is from 10 years ago. How dumb

This Mercedes reminds me of a 1980’s Ford Econoline…
I just can’t stand this guy’s obsession with extras.
Does he really need park assis, lane assist and a mic to tell the last row something?
That’s not the point, the point is that another car with the same target audience and similar price has those things
I spent most of my childhood in a GM M-body van (Astro/Safari) or an ‘03 Toyota Sienna, both of which make this thing look like a Rolls-Royce. It’s a commercial van, Doug, it just happens to be in the same size and price range as everyday minivans
So what exactly would make people buy it if an “everyday minivan” offers just as many seats and more comfort and a better engine for a better price?
Being a commercial van doesn’t give it excuse for poor value though, considering you can get a twin-turbocharged, long body, 14-passenger Ford Transit 250 wagon with more equipment for the same money.
I can’t be the only one that saw that it says ‘’Can I film a vehicle with your cool car?’’ in 1:57.
Basically the same as a rather old Vito, I’ve been in one and it looks the same inside.
It’s just the rival of a Ford Transit ,
Not rival of something like an Odyssey
The smallest, cheapest Transit is bigger, more flexible, seats more, and costs less. This just is not a competitive vehicle.
The target market for Metris wagon is airport/transport shuttle for Hotels/Taxi companies etc. However, most of these companies do just fine with lower trim level Grand Caravans/Odysseys/Siennas just fine if not actually better.
