Readers' Rides: Gabor's Unriced Honda S2000

Readers' Rides moves swiftly into VTEC territory, thanks to Gabor's stunning submission

Our new Readers' Rides series is all about you guys and the cars you love and own. This week, however, our man Gabor (he's Mr GIFs to you and I), insisted we feature his car. His reasoning? "Because VTEC and no rice." Who can argue with that, right? Gabor, over to you my man!

Buying an S2000 at the age of 21 is probably the worst financial decision any university student can make. It’s a nightmare to insure, it sits in a terrible tax band and I’m starting to think there is a hole in the tank. So why did I spend all my savings on one? Because Racecar.

I figured you only live once, so decided I'd enjoy a two-seater in my early twenties, rather than when I’m too old to climb out of the seat. Boxsters and Z4s were tempting but they seemed less fun and more expensive to run. The small displacement, high-revving motor in the S2000 seemed like the best compromise for me. And the looks.. dayum!

How does it drive? Sublime! The chassis is stiff, the suspension is bang on and the gearbox is the best I have ever tried. Being an early model, it comes with tail happy geometry, a locking diff and no traction control to save you. The 240bhp engine feels more like 160bhp, but when you're in the 6000-9000rpm rev band, the whole thing comes alive. It’s fantastic.

No mods are planned for the near future. I'd rather spend the money on petrol, tyres and trackdays than building a JDM garage queen. There is nothing that screams for an upgrade anyway...it’s a pretty good package as it is, especially if you consider the reasonable £6000 price tag.

Here's a super-short video I put together for you guys:

You guys might also recognise my car from this too...
