Red Bull Will Quit F1 If Audi Doesn't Come To The Rescue

As Red Bull continues to suffer a difficult start in Formula 1’s 2015 season - partly thanks to the underpowered and unreliable Renault V6 Turbo power unit - the Milton Keynes-based squad has issued yet another quit threat. This time around, Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko says the F1 team will quit the sport if a competitive engine is not found, or if Audi does not enter.

Marko says Red Bull’s future in F1 could rely on whether or not Audi enters the sport. He told BBC Sport:

“If we don’t have a competitive engine in the near future, then either Audi is coming or we are out. There are so many rumours. Officially there was no request or talks.

“The VW Group first has to sort out who will be the new chief of support, who will run the brand of VW, and when they have sorted all these things maybe then they can think about what they are doing in motorsport. I was on the phone but not to the people you think.

Rumours of Audi - which is currently enjoying success in FIA WEC - possibly entering F1 have been around for quite some time, but have always been dismissed by the German manufacturer. However, speaking recently to Auto Express, Audi chairman Rupert Stadler revealed it is looking into the sport. He said:

“It’s something we’re looking at, but then we’re always looking at it and many other things. But I can’t say yes or no.”
