Remember That Evil '2JZ' E30? Turns Out It's Actually A 1192hp M5-Engined Monster

Two weeks ago we showed you what we dubbed the world's most evil E30. While that statement still holds true, what we've learned - thanks to an email from the car owner's friend in Finland - is that this E30 is in fact pure BMW, not a 2JZ hybrid that we were led to believe.

So what's really under the hood?

Under the bonnet of this E30, you'll find an E34 M5 engine (S38B36) that's been bored out from 3535cc to 4000cc. Power's been boosted dramatically from the engine's original 310hp to 1192hp at 2 bar boost thanks to a Holset HX60 Super Turbo.

Further engine and drivetrain modifications include a big intercooler, new camshafts and bigger valves, a 60mm Tial waste-gate, lightweight flywheel, racing clutch and a new five-speed Tremec manual transmission that's durable enough to cope with up to 600lb/ft of torque.

Stopping power comes courtesy of beefy Brembo brakes, while the E30 sits on KW suspension and Powerflex bushes.

On top of these modifications (which currently total 60k euros and years of hard graft), you'll also spot an FIA approved roll cage, bucket seats and six-point harnesses.

With all of these modifications in place, this 1192hp rocket will hit the quarter mile in 10.2sec - its wheels will be scrabbling for traction the whole way there - and a 0-62mph time of around 2.9sec.

What's next?

Next on the list for 27-year old owner Tuomas Kuurne is a two-speed automatic Powerglide transmission (an early GM unit that's popular with drag racers) and a target 1/4-mile drag time of 8.0sec.
