This Ruined Corvette Grand Sport Was Wrecked After Just 15 Miles

The Corvette Grand Sport is a beautiful, desirable and brilliant car... although not this one, which was punted into a wall just 15 miles into its life

It was a Spiderman comic that coined the phrase ‘with great power comes great responsibility.’ It was Car Throttle, today, right now, that offers a new slant: ‘with great power comes greatly increased risk of stuffing your car into a wall.’

We give you exhibit A: one 2019 model year Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport that has clearly kissed some concrete like a fat man kisses the surface of a swimming pool shortly after leaving the 10-metre board.

It has just 15 miles on its odometer, and given that most cars have a few clicks on the clock before they actually see their first owner, this one may well have been binned on its very first trip out into the wild.

The beautiful orange sports car looks great from the back right-hand corner, but from any other angle it’s very obviously a whole universe of painful repair bills. Many, many thousands of dollars’ worth of damage have been done to the front, and, says the Copart auction listing, the underneath. If a subframe has been damaged, as seems likely, then you probably shouldn’t count on having plenty of change in your repairs budget.

We can easily see the extensive sadness going on around the front corner and wheel. An optimist might look at it with big dollar-signs in their eyes and convince themselves it’s an easy fix, but the reality is probably not so rosy. The interior is a mess of exploded airbags and if the collision was hard enough to fire both the front and the side airbags, it was hard enough to bend important stuff under the car. Thorough checks required.

A trawl through social media reveals a suspiciously similar Corvette Grand Sport attempting to mate with a wall in South Dakota, with rumour suggesting that the crash occurred in a delivery situation. Man, I wouldn’t like to be that employee right now.

If it is the same car then the bonnet and front bumper have since been removed. We think it probably is the same one, because what are the chances of two identical Grand Sports being totalled with impacts to the same corner, both just a few miles into their lives?

The bidding for this battered and humiliated Grand Sport currently stands at $20,600. If you had the cash would you get involved, or would you steer clear?
