Say Hello To Aston Martin's New 600bhp 5.2 Twin-Turbo V12
When we took a farewell drive in the Aston Martin DB9 recently (see below), there was one thing we wanted to focus on: the engine. That’s because it won’t be long before its 5.9-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 will be taken out of production and replaced with something of the turbocharged variety.
Now we know exactly what it’s going to be killed off by: an all-new 5.2-litre, twin-turbo V12, and it’s arriving this year. Other than the size and aspiration, not a lot has been confirmed, but there’s little doubt this is the engine that powers the incoming DB11. As far as a power output goes, we can expect around 600bhp, a healthy increase over the 568bhp you get from the 5.9’s most powerful state of tune in the Vanquish.
The big question is will it still sound as good as the old N/A? We get a vague idea in the reverb-tastic release video at the top of the page, and we have seen spy footage of DB11 prototypes running what we assume is the new 5.2-litre engine - but we’ll be reserving judgement for now.
While the 5.2-litre V12 is an Aston Martin-developed unit, the replacement for the company’s 4.7-litre V8 - originally based on a Jaguar engine - will debut at a later date in the form of an AMG-sourced mill, presumably the 4.0-litre twin-turbo found in the C63 and GT.

Ok that exhaust note gave me goosebumps :OOOO
You’re not alone!
Nooooooo!!!! Why ?! I don’t want to live on this planet anymore ;__;
He said that Aston will get the V8 from AMG. Maybe AMG will tune the V12, then you wouldn’t hear or feel the turbos (you know that if you ever listened to an AMG V8). There would be no negatives. Only positives like better economy (bettet for the buyer and Aston) and more Power, which you’d probably want from a new engine, wouldn’t you?
isn’t it low output having a 5.2 liter V12 Twin-Turbo only making 600bhp
Yeah kinda
I should think there’ll be a lot more to come. Bear in mind this is for the DB11, it’ll no doubt get cranked up for whatever replaces the Vanquish
It will be very unresponsive and have more turbo lag if they crank the boost even more. And besides the DB11 is a Grand Tourer, not a 0-60/top speed/laptime obsessed supercar. Besides, anything above 100hp per litre from a 5+ litre is impressive.
My thoughts exactly
Don’t care, it’ll sound good enough. They kept the V12. I’m happy.
This is the kind of “downsizing” I can get behind…
When jeremey declared the Aventador would be the last V12 😂😂
V12s are here to stay, at least for another 10 years, Aston is going to milk the crap outta this engine and Pagani isn’t going to be using fewer cylinders for their cars anytime soon.
And ferrari even stated thet they will always keep a V12 engine in their vehicle lineup :p (and let’s not forget about the AMG “65” Models!)
This is funny because these days saw a documentary about Aston and they said that they don’t want to turbocharge to maintain the n/a aspirated tradition.
LOL when did you see that? 10 years ago?
“n/a aspirated”, You sir are good at grammar.
I can dig it
Thank god AM didn’t killed off the V12.
Thank God!
Thanks Mercedes for giving them one.. just like they gave them their SL and GL chassis. AM can’t hold it’s head above water without them anymore.
Turbocharging has gone viral recently.
