Say Hello To The New Audi TT Off-Roader Concept
When Audi hinted at an expansion of the TT range, we thought a TT saloon would be the most likely outcome, and an off-roading 'TT Allroad' a real possibility. The latter - which was envisioned by the render below - is getting closer to reality, with the unveiling of this TT offroad concept at the Beijing motor show.
The concept is powered by VW Group's familiar 2.0-litre TFSI engine, which produces 288bhp and 280lb/ft of torque to the front wheels. This is supplemented by a 54bhp and 162lb/ft electric motor. At the rear axle, meanwhile, there's another motor, capable of a slightly higher 114bhp and 199lb/ft.
The combined power and torque of this tricksy hybrid powertrain is 402bhp and 479lb/ft. That makes 0-62mph possible in 5.2 seconds, and gives the usual 155mph electronically-limited top speed. Not bad considering the combined fuel economy figure is 148.7mpg while emitting 45g/km of C02. It's also capable of running on electric-only power for up to 31 miles at speeds of up to 80mph.
Audi is yet to decide whether the TT offroad - or anything like it - will go into production, but if it did, it wouldn't be as daft a decision as you mike think. The car would give the German carmaker an answer to up-market crossovers like the Range Rover Evoque, which are selling in big numbers these days.
