Say Hello To The New Nascar-Spec Toyota Supra
We have a double dose of Supra news for your today: as well as announcing that the new ‘A90’ version of the sports car will be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Toyota has also revealed a racing version of the car.
Well, sort of. It’s for the Nascar Xfinity series - one step down from the main Nascar Cup Series - meaning it’s a silhouette racing car that’s been given a Supra-ish body. It replaces the Camry-like vehicle currently used by Toyota in Xfinity. Camry-inspired cars have been used by Toyota since 2007.
The Nascar Supra will be built on a steel space frame and powered by carburetted pushrod V8s, as per the current regulations. It’s built by Californian firm Calty Design Research and Toyota Racing Development, better known as TRD.
Want to see it driven in anger? The Supra in inverted commas will make its racing debut at Daytona International Speedway next February.
It won’t be the only racing car to carry the Supra name. In fact, we’ve already seen another Supra racing car: the Racing Concept revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada recently confirmed that the vehicle wasn’t just a show piece, as it had been designed to conform with LM GTE regulations. Yep, the Supra will be taking on Le Mans as well as Nascar. We’d expect an FIA GT3 version to follow too.

What in tarnation
Is it just me, or does this look better than the original from some angles?
Not sure how I should feel about this. It’s not beautiful, but oddly “charming”?
Now cousins across all culters have something to watch on date night
Typical, once again carthrottle only mentions nascar when there’s something Japanese’s involved. Why doesn’t wtf1 and car throttle merge together as all I see is f1 and gt car coverage here
I saw that car in real life at Daytona yesterday!
Kill. It. With. Fire.
I really like it
