Sexy Jaguar Estates Are A Thing Of The Past Because No One Wants To Buy Them

Sexy Jaguar Estates Are A Thing Of The Past Because No One Wants To Buy Them

It’s science fact that wagons are sexier and cooler than their saloon counterparts, so naturally when Jaguar revealed the XE and more recently the new XF, the estate-ified renders came flooding in. The one above of Jaguar’s 5-series rival envisioned as an XF-RS Sportbrake by Xtomi Design particularly caught our attention, but sadly, it’s looking highly unlikely something like this will ever become a reality.

Automotive News quotes Jaguar design boss Ian Callum as saying “The [estate] market is massively shrinking. I’m very sad about it but it’s a very difficult market to justify.” Callum also mentioned that although Germany has the world’s largest estate market, it’s of little help to Jaguar as “what do Germans buy? They buy German cars.”

The kind of car that is popular in Europe and indeed worldwide is the SUV, which is why the British company created the F-Pace. In fact, Jaguar and Callum confidently told us at the car’s international launch recently that it’ll become the brand’s best-selling model. It’s not as cool as a wagon, but it’s a rather good car.

Jaguar flopped wirh the X-Type estate. They flopped with the XF Sportsbrake or whatever they called it… Maybe it takes 2 flops to learn. And just because the Krauts like estates, it doesn’t justify making a car for a small market. Krauts buy VW, Audi, MB, BMW, … estates before buying a Jag… Which also still has an unreliable reputation here…

In Turkey people mostly care about boring sedans, (because cheap) so no worries

I tried to get my dad to buy an XF Sportbrake instead of the boggo saloon, but he said (what I think a lot of people think) “Luxury cars aren’t meant to be estates.” I can’t say I agreed with him, but I did see where he was coming from.
