Shocking 'Ring Footage Shows Driver Almost Getting Run Over
If you’ve just crashed out at the Nurburgring, the danger isn’t over yet. Given that the Nordschleife is a tight track with very limited visibility in places, you have to be absolutely sure it’s safe to leave your crashed/broken down vehicle before doing so, and you need to get yourself over the Armco ASAP.
As for ‘why’ you only need to take a look at this terrifying video. Posted by YouTube channel Auto Addition at the request of the driver - to highlight the dangers of leaving your car when the track is live - it shows a BMW 328i hitting the barrier and rolling after some oversteer and a little over-correction.
The driver makes his exit toward the safety of the Armco barrier but doesn’t seem in a hurry. Until that is, an E46 BMW 3-series crashes into the scene, hitting the stricken 328i and barely missing the man. It’s uncomfortably close…

Jeez there’s a reason why they say not to get out of your car in the middle of the ring!

In this situation the halo might have been useful
On a more humourous note
Jesus Christ. The ‘Ring is a way to packed. Every time I watch these kinds of videos I think why didn’t they cut some trees and made same really big run-off areas.
Still, the guy should have gone over the barrier much sooner.
No matter how experienced you are in racing, a roll like that is an insane adrenaline kick and he was propably making sure the engine is off to percent overheating or fire, hand brake on to prevent rolling on to the track etc
Because it’s an old old track, designed well before safety was even a thing. I think the track was originally built around the 1920’s, but there have been some upgrades to safety over the years (gravel pits, barriers etc) Look up some of the older footage of the ring, it’s even scarier watching people head off the edge of hills etc when there is no barriers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en70xO8s4-4
So the driver that almost hit him had to decide between ruining his car or hitting someone because that guy was walking on the track, I’d be pissed if I was the guy who hit him afterwards
Considering how close the guy came to the barrier, he was gonna trash his car anyway.
