Pushing the button and pulling the handle puts all the stress on the cable and rear caliper assembly.. pulling it hard and releasing the button to lower the handle will actually cause the cable over time to snap, when it does you will need to take the entire center console off, the Ebrake handle itself out, and replace the cable from under the car, you will also run a higher risk of breaking the caliper assembly itself..

Previous owner MR2 did that, and it took me 2 days to run a cable, and cost me nearly 500.00 for the new caliper Ebrake bracket in the rear..

Had they just used the noise and the bracket the way it was designed it would have out lasted my lifetime..

The ratchet mechanism will probably outlast the car itself

It too late! It’s become a habit of mine! Nooooooooo, I guess it doesn’t hurt to press the button every time either.

Don’t care. It’s mainly the sound I hate. Unless pushing the button is bad for my car I’ll continue to do so!

It’s bad for the car.. you are yanking the cable and stretching it.. which when it gets older will make it snap.. which is very expensive to repair.. not to mention it can cause issues with the actual caliper..

I guess people who say it causes significant wear are people who haven’t ever fixed a car
