Sound The Alarm: There Are Still Brand New, Unregistered Lexus LFAs Out There

Stop what you’re doing and start crowdfunding: there are apparently 12 Lexus LFAs in the USA that have never been sold. Forgive us, but we may explode with all the want we’re experiencing right now.

They’re brand new, sitting in dealers’ warehouses or showrooms, either under storage cloths or simply getting dusty. When demand for the V10 supercar Jeremy Clarkson has called ‘the best car I’ve ever driven’ started to tail off in 2010, Lexus relaxed its restrictions on over-ordering by dealers and so a number made their way to wealthy franchises where they’ve sat ever since.

According to Jalopnik, six LFAs were sold brand new in the US last year, despite having ended production in 2012. Another one was registered for the first time earlier this year. It could be that dealers are storing them, waiting for prices to rise, as happened with the Mitsubishi Evo IX we told you about recently, or it could be that they are being used as eye candy; mind-blowing baubles for display in the richest Lexus dealers.

When it was new, the LFA’s starting price in the US was $375,000. In the UK it was £343,000. Used examples tend to sell quite quietly, but the ones we’ve seen with a few thousand miles under their belts fetch anything up to £450,000. A brand new one could get expensive enough to make anyone think twice.

We’ve asked Lexus GB for comment on whether there are any unused, unregistered LFAs in this country. We’ll update this piece if and when we hear back. In the meantime, start counting your savings.

EDIT: Lexus GB has responded to say that there are no unregistered LFAs in the UK, but that a couple are currently for sale in Germany.

My local dealers got one in a glass case so nobody can drool on it.

There seems to be quite a few of these never sold, never registered cars popping up all over the place. I hope someone in rich guy will buy one and drive it downtown, so I can carspot it!

Funny this is said, there is a never sold Lexus LFA near where one of my family members sit, I have seen it there for the last… 3 years I think? Maybe 4? It is in that sexy yellow as well. Like, hot damn.

But Doug DeMuro said used LFAs are selling for more then when they came out
So does that mean a new LFA will cost more then a used one?
