The Spicy 228bhp Mini John Cooper Works Is Here
When we drove the new Mini Cooper S earlier this year, it left us feeling a little cold. However, Mini has something on the way which should warm proceedings up accordingly. It’s the John Cooper Works version of the third-generation Cooper S, and the headline figures look pretty promising: 228bhp and 231lb ft of torque from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-pot.
This will allow the hottest third-gen Mini to go from 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds, on to a top speed of 153mph. It should be rather fun to throw about, too, as with a weight figure of just 1205kg it’s 100kg lighter than the old one.
To further aid the drivability stakes, it’ll come with beefy Brembo brakes, an electronic locking differential, and if you splash a little extra cash, swanky adaptive dampers.
Interested? It’ll make its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, before going on sale in the second quarter of 2015 in the UK. Expect it to cost somewhere in the region of £22-23,000.
