Can’t afford that nice set of alloy wheels you’ve been eying up? Hopefully, you haven’t considered hacking up a set of steelies to make them look like the design you desire, but we can’t help but wonder if it’s possible.

Turns out it is, as proven by - who else - Russian YouTubers Garage54. Here, they turned a run-of-the-mill steel wheel into something that looks remarkably like a Vossen CV3.

Getting there involved a lot of cutting, welding and painting, but the result is impressive - without looking too closely at all the welds, you might just be fooled. If you were to give a more thorough inspection, though, you might also notice the festooning of weights - it should come as no surprise that the DIY ‘alloy’ was not easy to balance.

Despite the nature construction - described by Garage54 as ‘ghetto’ - the wheel survived a short and relatively slow test drive. We probably wouldn’t want to take it much further or faster, though…
