A Stock-Ish Version Of The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Is Going Off-Road Racing
If you want to prove your off-road-friendly pick-up truck is a tough son-bitch, entering ‘Vegas to Reno’ is a pretty damn good way to do it. It’s a tortuous, 550-mile off-road race, taking on anything from dry lake beds to tough mountain passes, all of which will be taken on with a stock Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 this year.
Well, not quite stock: to be included the “stock production” 7300 class, it’s been necessary to add a roll cage, a 166 litre racing fuel tank, and racing bucket seats complete with harnesses. There are also racing lights - which look awesome - two-way radios and a GPS system.
The ZR2’s clever Multimatic dampers have also received unspecified modifications, although the 3.6-litre V6 and eight-speed automatic gearbox remain completely stock.
What’s particularly interesting is that Chevrolet says this particular ZR2 “acts a testbed for Chevy Performance and hints at a range of potential parts to be offered for ZR2 as well as the standard Colorado.”
The Hall Racing-modified vehicle will be departing later today with Chad Hall at the wheel, arriving at some point tomorrow morning.
